Here comes the boring bit.

Iceland sits directly on the mid-Atlantic ridge, an 18,000km rift between 2 tectonic plates. The North American plate and the Eurasian Plate. The plates are pulling apart by 1cm a year.

This afternoon I left continental Europe and crossed over to continental North America on a bus in 10 minutes! Concorde, eat your heart out.

The lake at Pingvellir is in the middle of this rift. It is the clearest lake in the world with underwater visibility being 400 meters straight down. I declined a swim. although the air temperature was a balmy 20 degrees, the water is not warm due to the local glacier feeding it.

Today we saw E15 ( Eyjafjallajökull - don't ask me to pronounce it) the volcano that erupted in 2010 causing chaos to air traffic control in the northern hemisphere for 14 days. Its still steaming even now.

Its been an interesting Birthday
