All good things come to an end. Has Iceland lived up to my expectations? Yes and much much more. What a truly amazing place.

The Icelanders are welcoming, happy, helpful people even if they do speak an unpronounceable language. Nothing is too much trouble.

Yes, it is the most expensive place I have ever been to, it is eye wateringly so. £10 for a glass of wine a bag of tea bags in the supermarket was £6

The landscape is moonlike and unique. Stark yet beautiful. Unforgiving terrain with fickle weather that puts the UK to shame. It is the most environmentally aware place, in tune with green issues and conservation. Long may that live.

The 24 hours of daylight have played havoc with my biorhythms. Get up for a wee at 2.30am to broad daylight and my body decides it's lunchtime and no way is it going back to sleep.

I am going to miss lounging in hot tubs of geothermal water

A big thumbs up to Icelandair. You have so got it right. You actually make flying a pleasure. You are encouraged to check-in at your hotel at dedicated terminals and print out your boarding pass. At the airport, you scan your pass and out pop your baggage tags. Slap them on your case and take the bag to self-scan drop-offs. Simples!

Ok got clobbered for a full body search at security as I left my gold bangle on which set every alarm off but was still front door to airside in 15 mins. Amazing considering it's really busy here.
